Cape Breton Association for Housing Development
Quality, affordable housing for our communityThe Cape Breton Association for Housing Development provides modern, clean, and affordable housing. Heat and electricity are not included in the rent and must be paid by the tenant.
To apply for a unit with the CBAHD, an application must be filed. When a vacancy occurs, the application is reviewed and a decision is made based on the applicant’s need, the readiness of the applicant to move in, and the length of time the application has been on file.
Currently, there are 160 units located in Cape Breton:
Glace Bay – 6 units
North Sydney – 20 units
Sydney Mines – 20 units
Sydney – 114 units
When CBAHD was established in the early 1970’s it was managed by a small group of concerned citizens who borrowed money to purchase and renovate one downtown Sydney building for the purpose of creating apartments.
The Cape Breton Association for Housing Development employs four full- time and four to five part-time staff. The Cape Breton Association for Housing Development office is located in the New Dawn Enterprises Limited building.
