Ideas Powered by Passion

In October 2009, New Dawn launched a speaker series called “Ideas: Powered by Passion”. The series is a celebration of creativity and ideas while encouraging “outside of the box” thinking through speech and music.
After seeing so many interesting people doing great things right here in Cape Breton, we decided to bring those people together. The goals of the series are simple:
The series takes place every 4-6 weeks on a rotating schedule of venues in Sydney. The evening generally goes as follows:
- We hear from one or two community members who offer a short presentation about an interesting project they are working on and why.
- We follow the presentations with a bit of live music – it’s like a songwriter’s circle, only with one songwriter or artist. This format enables us to get to know more about the artist, his art form, and the meaning behind her songs.
- Next, we hear from the keynote speaker who conveys their life’s passion, what inspires them to do what they love to do, and why. A lively question and answer session generally ensues and conversation then spills over to the final portion of the evening. This part of the evening has already been dubbed “The Cape Breton TED”!
- What is quickly becoming a “Meeting of the Minds” follows at a local venue where guest speakers, the audience and community members are invited to continue the dialogue in a more informal manner.
We invite you to come out to listen and be inspired by passionate ideas, and projects. If you would like to be added to our direct email list, please contact newdawn@newdawn.ca. Stay tuned for more information about the next “Ideas: Powered by Passion” coming January 20th from 7-9 pm at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.
