“Island in the Sun” brings collection of sunburns and tanlines to Café Marie
AUDIO: Photographer Steve Wadden shares inspiration behind his new exhibit on CBC Radio's Information Morning Cape Breton
Cape Breton photographer Steve Wadden has been documenting “excruciating burns” over the past five years. Each summer, he put out a call over social media and says he got messages almost daily, usually around sunset when the day’s sun damage really came into view.
“Realistically, I’d get three or four amazing sunburns each year,” he said.
“I think every picture in [the exhibit] was taken the day of the burn; there might be one or two where we waited a day and they’re more tan-oriented, but most of them are fresh lobsters out of the pot.”
Island in the Sun is on display at Eltuek Arts Centre in Café Marie from July 14 to October 12.
