Good Food Bus gears up to hit the road again in CBRM
SYDNEY, N.S. – After 12 weeks of adapting its service via the Good Food Packs program to meet the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Good Food Bus is gearing up to return to communities throughout the CBRM.
Staff and volunteers will be following Nova Scotia public health recommendations, abiding by physical distancing protocol and practicing proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. Customers will be expected to do the same. Customers are encouraged to use debit or credit but cash will be accepted.
The bus is scheduled to deliver fresh food markets in Whitney Pier, New Waterford, Sydney, Membertou, Sydney Mines, and Glace Bay — beginning this Saturday, July 18.
This time around, the Good Food Bus will offer more local products while continuing to offer smaller, more affordable portions.
“The Good Food Bus aims to ease barriers to accessing good food,” says Emma Jerrott, Good Food Bus Coordinator. “We would like to emphasize that the Good Food Bus is for all community members. We want to create a community-centred atmosphere and fun environment for all who visit the bus. Our staff and volunteers look forward to seeing you again!”
The Good Food Bus program was recently selected as a recipient of the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) of the Government of Canada, administered in collaboration with United Way Cape Breton. The funding will allow the Good Food Bus to continue to support community members in the CBRM during the ongoing pandemic.
Anyone looking to volunteer with the Good Food Bus can contact Assistant Coordinator Siobhan Schreinert at sschreinert@newdawn.ca or send a message through the Good Food Bus Facebook page.
