Remembering dedicated volunteer David Horton
David will be remembered for his easygoing nature and calm dedication to volunteer service.
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of David Horton, a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels, earlier this month.
David joined the New Dawn Meals on Wheels volunteer program in February of 2025 and quickly became a dedicated and cheerful part of the team, often showing up for meal service after a morning spent on the golf course. For the staff and volunteers at Meals on Wheels, David will be remembered for his easygoing nature and calm dedication to volunteer service.
“As a volunteer, David reminded me of John Whalley, New Dawn Vice-President and beloved Meals on Wheels volunteer, whom we lost in January of 2025. David shared John’s quiet commitment to Meals on Wheels, taking on regular routes and last-minute volunteer requests with a humility that belies the impact of his service,” said Sara Roth, Manager of Volunteer Resources and Community Meals at New Dawn. “I am honoured to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers at Meals on Wheels who integrate community service into their daily lives with grace. We simply COULD NOT operate Meals on Wheels without you.”
During his time as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, David delivered 75 routes and provided hundreds of friendly check-ins with individuals struggling with nutrition and social isolation.
We are grateful for everything David shared with our organization, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
