About the Position
The English Language Coordinator will be responsible for the administration of language services at the Cape Breton Centre for Immigration (CBICI)
The English Language Coordinator will oversee the development and delivery of curricula for two innovative language programs. They will be overseeing one instructor who administers an established in-house English as an Additional Language (EAL) program and develop and launch a new in-community language support program for temporary foreign workers (TFWs) employed in Cape Breton-Unama’ki.
The position includes responsibility for employee management/oversight, curricula and outcomes planning, and language program delivery. Language program delivery (session instruction) occurs 2-3 times a week.
The English Language Coordinator, in keeping with the values and methods of CBICI, brings an enthusiastic and empathetic approach to interactions with clients, stake holders, employees, and volunteers, and conducts themselves using a culturally sensitive lens.
Administrative Duties
- Respond to client inquiries.
- Complete client intake forms
- Manage language registration requests.
- Conduct initial language assessments with each participant.
- Data entry to provincial database (client information, attendance)
- Connect clients with other staff/resources as needed.
- Weekly reporting the Centre Manager
Program Implementation Duties
- Oversee existing language program to ensure outcomes and goals are met, including monthly community connection component.
- Employer and employee outreach in fishing and agriculture sectors
- Determine best approach to program delivery for both employers and prospective participants (scheduling constraints, location, format, etc.)
- Implement best approach to programming which will increase Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) scores to facilitate immigration eligibility.
- Be willing and able to travel within Cape Breton twice weekly for program implementation in workplaces/with participants identified in outreach.
- One weekly teaching to be delivered remotely or virtually.
- Implement ongoing evaluation processes, tailored to each client population, to ensure an iterative approach to program enhancements.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in internal team meetings as required.

- Other duties as assigned by the Manager of CBICI.
- Possess valid and up to date TESL Certification.
- Current and up-to-date Criminal Record Check
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Has valid NS drivers license and has own vehicle for work-related travel
- Experience with program and curriculum development and delivery.
- Experience working with newcomers.
- Experience teaching EAL.
- Experience managing people and workflow.
- Travel will be required.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Overtime may be required; working evenings/weekends and needed.
- Interacts with employees, management, and public at large.
- Environment can be busy/noisy at times.
