About the Position

Details: Permanent, Part-Time (Monday-Friday, 2:00pm – 5:30pm), located at the following schools:

  • John Bernard Croak VC Memorial School
  • Tompkins Memorial Elementary
  • Donkin School
  • St. Anne’s Elementary

Number of vacancies: Multiple Positions

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the daily supervision of children aged 4–12 in accordance with licensing and safety standards
  • Assist with organizing and facilitating recreational, creative, and educational activities with an emphasis on being outdoors when weather permits
  • Promote positive behavior and encourage respectful peer interactions
  • Help with daily routines such as snack time, activity transitions, and cleanup
  • Communicate positively and professionally with children, staff, and families
  • Report any incidents or concerns to the Program Lead promptly
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and inclusive environment

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in internal team meetings as required
  • Look for potential improvements and help implement solutions
  • Maintain quality, safety and the confidentiality of employees, children, and volunteers
  • Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity so as to portray New Dawn in a positive manner, consistent with its values and vision
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, engaging in professional networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Respond to the needs of others with effective communication, mutual respect, and consistent follow through to build trust and workplace relationships
  • Promote the mission and values of New Dawn both internally and externally
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current students and graduates of education, child and youth care, or a related field of study
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (if over 18) and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • First Aid – Level C (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience working or volunteering with children in a group setting
  • Compassion, empathy, diplomacy, and problem solving
  • Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable populations
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with guidance
  • Exceptional attention to detail and verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work effectively with others toward shared goals
  • Highly organized and ability to work well under pressure
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Understands servant leadership and community-centricity

Work Conditions

  • Interaction with employees, volunteers, management, children and the public
  • Travel may be required between sites
  • Overtime may be required; working evenings/weekends as needed
  • Environment can be busy and/or noisy at times

Incorporated in 1976, New Dawn is the oldest Community Development Corporation in Canada. Today it employs more than 200 people across more than 10 companies. These companies provide community health and social care; housing, affordable housing, and supportive housing; disability services and supportive living; newcomer settlement; arts, culture and food; affordable meals for seniors; youth mental health services and programming, early childhood education, and spaces for community gathering and building.
