Eleanor’s Court at One Year: Lala’s Story
“You make good friends here and we all support each other.”
New Dawn, At Home Housing Association, and the Town of Port Hawkesbury are working together to provide inclusive, accessible housing that supports community vitality and sustainable growth.
Designed with accessibility and inclusion at its core, this mixed-income neighbourhood provides housing options for people with diverse incomes and needs, helping ensure Port Hawkesbury remains a welcoming place for current and future residents.
54 units (1, 2, and 3-bedrooms)
Combination of moderate-income affordable units, median-income affordable units, and deeply affordable units
Approximately 20 percent of the units will be fully accessible, with priority given to individuals with disabilities and seniors
New Dawn is currently seeking financing and funding for the development. An application was submitted in May 2026 to Build Canada Homes and is under evaluation. We are also in the process of drafting an application to the Province of Nova Scotia's Affordable Housing Development Program. New Dawn, At Home, and the Town of Port Hawkesbury continue to work in partnership to try to find a path forward to secure this next phase of critical capital funding for the build.
Projects of this scale ($30M+) typically take 12 months to secure their full funding and financing and construction then takes 18-36 months. Where Build Canada Home requires modular construction, our hope is to keep the construction period to 18-24 months.
Our Safe Spaces policy ensures a respectful, supportive atmosphere for everyone. We pledge to listen, learn, and adapt to your needs, because your well-being is our priority. Together, we will create a safer, compassionate community for all.
