The Donation Fund is a pilot project created by the goCapeBreton.com team to encourage people to visit and engage with local stories on the website. Every time anyone adds a post to goCapeBreton.com or likes, dislikes, or comments on a post, goCapeBreton.com adds money to the Donation Fund. When the Donation Fund reaches $500, the money is awarded to the local cause that has the most votes from website members. Membership is free and anyone can join and vote for a local cause.

“New Dawn Meals on Wheels is very pleased to accept this $500 cheque from goCapeBreton.com’s Donation Fund,” said Whelan.

“This money will be used for our client subsidy program, which reduces the cost of our meals from $6.50 to $4.50 each for clients who fall under low-income status. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote!”

New Dawn Meals on Wheels is a charitable, volunteer-driven program committed to fostering independence and quality of life by providing affordable nutrition services. Each year, Meals on Wheels provides approximately 9,000 hot and nutritious meals to people in the community who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. All meals are delivered to the doorsteps by a team of friendly and dedicated volunteers.

The recent addition of an industrial kitchen has enabled Meals on Wheels to increase meal preparation capacity. The program is now seeking additional volunteers to help with meal delivery.
