Fundraising Manager
Job Description
About the Position
The Fundraising Manager is responsible for the coordination and execution of capital fundraising campaigns, primarily for the Glace Bay Family & Youth Centre. The Fundraising Manager uses expert communication skills and a keen sense of initiative to seek out and identify fundraising opportunities, develop relationships with potential donors, and manage fundraising campaigns.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and steward capital fundraising campaigns, identifying clear dollar amount goals and engaging, innovative, and ethical approaches to reach goals
- Build and nurture relationships with community stakeholders, project champions and donors, and future building patrons and visitors
- Research and make recommendations of grants and donor prospects
- Grant writing, as well as writing for various communications materials
- Establish and manage database of potential donors
- Collaborate and lead internal conversations with the team about fundraising potentials
- Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work
- Participate in internal team meetings, as required
- Maintain quality, safety and the confidentiality of employees, clients, and volunteers
- Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray New Dawn in a positive manner, consistent with its values and vision
- Update job knowledge by engaging in professional networks and participating in professional organizations
- Respond to the needs of others with effective communication, mutual respect, and consistent follow through to build trust and workplace relationships
- Promote the mission and values of New Dawn both internally and externally
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Properties & Development
Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, arts, or related field
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Natural story-teller and strong relationship building skills
- Passion for research and data-driven projects
- Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks
- Experience in writing grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
- Compassion and empathy
- Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable populations
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with guidance from others
- Ability to work effectively with others; to work together towards a shared goal
- Highly organized and ability to work well under pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
- Understands servant leadership and community-focus as central to the work
Work Conditions
- Travel will be required.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Overtime may be required; working evenings/weekends and needed.
- Interacts with employees, management, and public at large.
- Environment can be busy/noisy at times.
